Where bad habits are encouraged… especially when they involve goats.

When asked why “The Bad Habit Barn”, I tell people that it’s because everything in the barn is a BAD habit, and to just ask my husband. I think Mr. BHB has come to fully accept that one goat is never just one goat—and there are far worse habits a person could have. Bless his heart :)

Even as a fairly young herd, we are passionate about raising quality Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats with an emphasis on correct structure, strong mammary systems, sound genetics, and animals that are as enjoyable to live with as they are competitive in the ring and productive in the barn. We strive to improve our herd year after year. Even if a continual learning process for us, as long as we see those little improvements, we will continue on! We utilize Linear Appraisal scores (when we can get our rural herd appraised), DHIR records, and our success in the show ring as learning tools for the improvement of our herd.

For us, breeding isn’t simply about producing more goats. With very limited space, every pairing is made with purpose, with the goal of improving on the generation before it while preserving the qualities we value most.

But, The Bad Habit Barn is about more than pedigrees, ribbons, and appraisal scores.

It’s about early mornings in the barn, ridiculously late nights during kidding season, staring at udders longer than any normal person should, analyzing goats from every possible angle, celebrating the wins, learning from the disappointments—and somehow deciding that the answer to all of it is probably another goat.
